† Watch Your Mouth

Growing up, I was always told to watch my mouth. At first, I thought it only meant being careful how I spoke to my parents and other adults.

After years in the Army and multiple deployments, I was diagnosed with PTSD. At the time, I used that diagnosis as a crutch to avoid things I did not want to do, often saying I felt sick, nervous, or unable to go out.

Now, at fifty-seven, I understand what “watch your mouth” really means. Tell the truth. Do not speak defeat over your life or anyone else’s, because words have power.

Looking back, I realize I trapped myself in a prison of my own making. Instead of telling the truth, I leaned on an excuse that gave me a way out temporarily. I have not been completely delivered from it yet, but trusting in God to do what you can’t do makes it a lot better until the day of wholeness comes.

The Bible tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue, and I did not use mine wisely. Learn from my mistake: think before you speak, because words can shape our lives. I am still learning this lesson, but I know now to Watch my Mouth. May God continue to bless you, your brother in Christ…TMK.
