Have you ever heard the saying, “A hard head makes a soft behind”? It means that not listening can lead to trouble. I often pray and ask God to speak to me clearly, so I know it’s Him and not just my own thoughts.
Well, a few weeks ago, I was lying in bed, not wanting to get up for work. I thought I heard a voice telling me to stay home. I figured I was just being lazy, so I got up, got dressed, and left for work. About two miles from work, I heard a thump in the back of my car. I thought I hit a bump, but the noise got louder as I drove. I stopped to check the tire but didn’t find anything wrong, so I kept driving. The noise continued, so I stopped again and this time I heard air leaking from the tire. I thought, “I need to get to a tire shop before it goes flat,” and rushed to drive off.

In the end, it cost me three thousand dollars and two weeks to fix the tires and rims. Looking back, I believe God was telling me to stay home that day. Even though it was an expensive lesson, I’m grateful that no one was hurt. Things could have been much worse, and I share this story to help others think about listening to GOD’s guidance.
We often ask God to speak to us, but when He does, we sometimes ignore it or think it’s something else. I can’t tell you what to do, but next time you feel something in your heart—and it’s not immoral or unlawful—pay attention. It might be God giving you directions.
I learned two things that day:
- I’ve grown a little; the old me would have been very upset and stayed upset.
- Even though I love Jesus and try to follow Him, I still have a lot to learn about hearing His voice.
I know I mentioned the cost and time it took to fix my car, but I hope you focus on the lesson instead. God speaks to us in different ways, sometimes clearly, sometimes not. It’s up to us to listen, because He speaks to everyone. May God bless continue to bless you, your brother in Christ…TMK.
