There is no shortage of problems in the world today. As I was listening to a movie while preparing to write this, something one of the actors said made me pause and shift my thinking: “God never promised us that there would never be hard times.”
In fact, Scripture tells us the opposite: Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers them from them all. (Psalm 34:19) I truly believe that. I have been delivered from a few things, and I am sure you have too. But when life comes around again—this time even harder than before—do you still find comfort in that promise? To be honest, I find it very difficult. I do try, though. It takes a little while for that “woe is me” feeling to pass, but eventually it does, and I remind myself that God is in control and that He will work things out in His time.
I will be completely honest: I do not handle being sick or not feeling my best very well. In fact, right now my ear is ringing so loudly it feels like the person next to me could hear it. It does not go away as quickly as I want it to, though it usually eases up after a day or two. If I am being honest, it frustrates me, but there is really nothing I can do but try to ignore it. Then the devil whispers, “Where is God now? You know He knows your ear is ringing. Why won’t He stop it? You know He can.” Of course, I resist those thoughts as best I can and try to focus on something else, but it is very hard.
I say all of that to say this: we are going to go through things. Some struggles will pass more quickly than others, and some may seem like they never will. Still, do your best to stay encouraged and continue to pray. I have heard people say, “Just pray and let God have it,” but I was told to pray, and keep praying, until something changes.
God does not get tired of hearing from you. I believe your prayers show your faith in the One who can heal and deliver. He even tells us to cast our cares on Him because He cares for us. (1 Peter 5:7) So put away the unbelief, guilt, and pride, humble yourself and ask God for His help. Most importantly HOLD ON. May God continue to bless you, your brother in Christ…TMK.
