† This Means War

As a little girl with two brothers and two sisters, putting my toys down and coming back later to find them missing was normal behavior in our home. Whenever that was the case, we’d find the culprit and walk directly up to them and snatch it back. As an adult, having your personal things taken from you without your consent is considered a crime and it’s very offensive to the original owner.

I’m reminded of an instance in the Bible when David and his men were out at war and returning from the battle they noticed that their women were missing. How devastating that must have been. While the men were fighting in a warzone, some enemy had come into their camp and taken their loved ones captive to God knows where. In their distress the men thought of stoning David because they were out at war instead of being with their families. David decided that he would seek the Lord for a strategy and further instructions on how to get their women back. God heard his cry and instructed David to pursue after them and that he would recover all. (1 Samuel 30)

Most of us have worked hard and prayed hard to obtain the things we have. To hold on to them is even more important than receiving them in the first place. The fact that these things are materialistic in nature is not the major issue. The main issue is that the things belong to them and no one should be allowed to take them without a fight.

Jesus reminds us that the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but He came that we might have life and have it more abundantly. An abundant life is His will for all of us, but we must be willing to fight for it. Are you willing to fight to remain free from the devil’s plot to negatively impact your life or to take from you the things God intended for you to have? If so, then “Come Hell or High Water” you might need to go to battle for it.

As David and his men did—you may need to say, “This Means War” and go get your stuff. You can’t take the devil’s assault on you—lying down. No. You must gain strength and be willing to fight against what he’s using to fight against you. You must be willing to obtain and keep the abundant life that Christ died to give you. It’s yours, so fight for it!
