Life’s situations can come at us so hard and can attempt to overpower us. But we have to make a decision to use the stuff we have deep inside of us to either give into it or fight against it.
When I was about seven or eight years old, my mother decided that she would take us to the YMCA for swimming lessons. It was a big deal, because without the lessons we weren’t allowed to go to the swimming pool to hang-out with our friends. I must admit, I wasn’t very fond of getting in all that water but without trying to learn how to swim, I wasn’t going to be hanging with my friends that summer either.
So, mom went to the store and got all the things we were required to have and off we went. I was excited and scared at the same time. The lifeguard seemed to talk way too much, and I remember thinking to myself, come on—we get it! We know what to do already. Needleless to say, that I missed some of his instructions because I was too impatient and had stopped listening.
When the time came for us to put to practice what we had learned, I forgot to hold on to the rail as we were instructed. So down I went into twelve feet of water kicking, screaming, and trying to pull myself up from the waves I was creating in the struggle. I was determined that I wasn’t going out like that. Up and down for the third time I went and needless to say, I was on the verge of drowning right before their eyes. But just in the nick of time, the lifeguard swooped down to rescue me. Thinking to myself—withtears in my eyes, what took you so long? I was so relieved and gave him the biggest hug I could mustard up.
See when things come in our lives to overtake us, we must choose to survive. We must choose to make it through to see what the end will be. Life can be cruel, and situations can come to drown us out—but “Come Hell or High Water”, we can’t quit. We have to purpose in our hearts to “Sink or Swim” through that situation too.
We have our supernatural Lifeguard waiting to assist us—but we have to at least be willing to continue the journey. I can’t promise you that everything will work out like you desire and that you will never face challenging or even dangerous situations in your life. But I’d like to encourage you today that “Come Hell or High Water” to realize you have what you need inside of you to make it through. All you have to do is make a decision to either “Sink or Swim”. Don’t give in and don’t quit. “Come Hell or High Water” you can make it! The Lord is waiting to help you conquer the thing that’s trying to conquer you. (Read Romans 8:35-39)
