I’m told, fall is the season to start preparing your lawn for its next season. During the fall months, you can fertilize your grass, put weed eater down, aerate and even reseed, in preparation for a beautiful yard the following spring.
When I passed by, I often glanced at my neighbor’s yard, and it always looked so healthy and green most all year round. He was always out there doing something to it. Anyway, because I wanted my yard to look just as nice, but really didn’t have the desire to work and labor on it all the time—like he did, I decided to take the easy way out. So, one day in the beginning of the summer, I purchased a truck load of sod and hired someone with a green thumb to lay it down for me. After he had done all the work and was completely finished—my lawn was awesome looking, and it outshined my neighbor’s yard for the first time ever. But after another season of me not taking care of it or watering it, as usual, I was back in the same boat, but this time with less money.
Like my yard, we often think people’s lives are better than the ones we have. Actually, it’s more arcuate to say, better than the ones we’ve been blessed enough to live. Having the mindset that others have it better than we do, will always keep us working hard to try to keep up with others and my friend, that’s really not living at all. In fact, our labor will one day prove to be in vain if we don’t from our hearts, realize we are where we are—because of God’s mercy and start giving Him thanks for it.
“Think on This” for a moment, please. My neighbor’s grass may look good on the outside, but we know nothing about the inside of his life. We know nothing about the hardships he may or may not have to deal with on a daily basis. In other words, “Don’t let the Green Grass Fool You!” Instead, it’s our job to remember to be grateful for what we have now and not to compare it with what we think others may have better. We have to remember, that whether it’s just a yard or our entire lives, God is actually the One who brings the increase. Whatever we’re lacking, if we pray with a sincere and grateful heart, God can and will bring our increase, in its proper season. (Read 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 KJV)
