† Road Trip

Life is but a journey to somewhere.   When someone plans to make a trip from one location to another, finally getting there is probably the most important thing.  It really doesn’t matter how long it takes—they want to arrive safe and sound—no matter what.

Go with me for just a minute, please.  If you have ever planned a trip or know someone who has, then you know the journey can prove to be quite adventurous at times.  I remember driving from North Carolina to Texas many years ago to attend some required training.  During the trip, I had to plan to drive without stopping, if I was going to arrive at the site on time.  Needless to say, I was traveling all alone in my little Corolla, and wasn’t really prepared for what could happen.  On the open road, packed up and all gased-up—I headed south for my 24-hour trip.  In retrospect—I should have planned better.

When one is on a journey, they may have to fight through some things in order to reach the end of their trip.  They might have to fight through the traffic when it becomes congested or busy. They may have to fight to stay awake, and that can be very important to everyone on the same road.  They may have to pull over, stretch their legs or run in place to wake themselves up.  I’ve learned rolling down the window—doesn’t work for very long for me.  In fact, it makes it easier for me to fall asleep if the breeze is just right.  Other times they might have to fight through boredom, so they turn their music on and start singing with the artist, because anything is better than a long and dull trip.  Sometimes it may become necessary to even fight through fatigue. If they are ever gonna to get there, they know they can’t stop. They must press on—”Come Hell or High Water” to get to their desired destination.

The other challenge on this journey is they have to pay attention to the signs on the road, watch out for other drivers and animals that may be on their journey as well, and still maintain a rhythm to keep up with the flow of the traffic.  Yes, there are so many things to consider as you travel to your destination.  We have to be willing, “Come Hell or High Water” to fight through every challenge we face if our overall desire truly is to arrive. It’s only after fighting through it all to get there, you realize the journey was well worth the trip.

As it is in the natural, so is it with our spiritual journey to make it to God’s planned destination for our lives.  “Come Hell or High Water”, we must be willing to fight through whatever obstacles the enemy throws along our path.  We might have to cross over into the other lane—in order to escape some unexpected things, but we must keep moving.  This is one “Road Trip” we can’t afford to miss.  We can’t fall asleep while traveling, we can’t quit in the middle of the trip, and we can’t allow ourselves to be burned out or too exhausted to continue on. “Come Hell or High Water” we must finish this “Road Trip” to make it to our desired destination.
